Signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Campania Region, represented by Valeria Fascione, Regional Councillor for Research, Innovation and Start UP, and Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU), represented by Axel Krein, Executive Director, to accelerate the transformation of transportation toward climate neutrality.

Campania and the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking will work together to strategically align technical activities. This will lead to regionally funded projects that contribute to the strategic agenda for clean aviation research and innovation (SRIA).

Initiated strategic cooperation on "Net Zero Aviation" in line with the goals of the European Green Deal. The program aims to maximize synergies, with particular reference to the N/R Operational Program, supported by European/National/Regional funds, and the CAJU Work Program, with the purpose of aligning R&I objectives, priorities and themes and related financial resources. The MoU also aims to identify potential opportunities for additional funding from relevant European, national and regional activities and programs, with special emphasis on those aimed at supporting the application of innovative solutions, training of new specific skills in aeronautics, and regional development, which are key to achieving greater scientific, socio-economic and environmental results.

Also present at the signing ceremony - during the Aeronautics and Space Show "Paris Air Show 2023" at Le Bourget Airport (Paris) - were the Director General of D.G. "Economic Development and Productive Activities" of the Campania Region Raffaella Farina, Rosalinde Van Der Vlies - Director of Clean Planet - European Commission, Aurelio Boscarino, Head of Strategy and Innovation at Leonardo, Luigi Carrino, President of the Campania Aerospace District (DAC), Antonio Blandini President of the Italian Aerospace Research Center ( C.I.R.A.).

Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking

The Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (formerly called Clean Sky) is the program devised by the European Commission in collaboration with the European aeronautics industry, including Italy's Leonardo, involving 1,000 entities including institutions, universities, research centers, small and medium-sized enterprises and industries in 30 countries, with more than 5,000 specialists. The goal: to develop new technologies to reduce aircraft CO2 and other gas emissions and reduce noise.

Leonardo is a founding member of the program. Among the most important projects: 'Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft' (HERA) aimed at defining of a hybrid-electric propulsion regional aircraft concept and related performance, integrating revolutionary technologies relevant to its regular operation. HERA will also have to define the main characteristics of a real demonstrator and related flight tests, planned for the second part of the Clean Aviation program, in order to prepare for its implementation on a real product, intended to enter service (EIS - Entry Into Service) in the middle of the next decade.
